For ESL students: Students will work on assigned materials with a tutor: reading, speaking, and writing. This course will help students acquire accurate pronunciation, think and express their thoughts in English orally and in a written form. This course will focus on basic writing skills.
For elementary students: Through each individually paced session students will work with a tutor on prewriting to discover an idea through discussion, drafting an essay, and going through the revision process. This course will require students to complete writing as homework before the next session. This course will focus on logical thinking, grammar and word usage, and sentence patterns. Essay prompts include a nonfiction narrative and a fictional narrative.
For middle school students: This course will use nonfiction and fiction articles for essay topics. Students will work with a tutor on prewriting to discover an idea through discussion, drafting an essay, and going through the revision process. Students are required to complete writing as homework before the next session. This course will focus on logical thinking, building analytical and effective writing skills with accurate grammar and precise word choice. Best for prep school and magnet school essay test preparation. Students must already be proficient in Standard Written English.
For high school students: This course will use actual college essay prompts. Students will work with a tutor on brainstorming an idea through discussion, an essay, and going through the revision process. The goal is for students to develop the confidence to take risks and challenge themselves so that they can become invested in their work. Students are required to complete writing as homework before the next session. This course will help students to acquire logical and analytical writing skills and to prepare for college applications. Good for 9-11th graders. Students must already be proficient in Standard Written English.
